Teething in Babies

Jul 25, 2016 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Even though the teeth start developing when the babies are inside the womb itself, they start to sprout when the babies are anywhere between 4 to 7 months. In some babies you can see the white cap even before 4 months and in some only after a year.

Early or delayed teething is not at all a cause of worry if it falls in the above-mentioned time frame. It is exceptionally rare that the white cap is visible at the time of birth itself. Even though experts opine that there are no established evidences to prove that there is a relation between teething and fever or loose motions and other discomforts, practically almost 70 to 80 percentage of the babies will have some or the other sorts of discomfort at the time of teething. Mainly we can see:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea (there is no direct relationship, but due to babies wanting to chew everything to soothe their itchy gums, they tend to put their hands or other toys in the mouth which can cause stomach infection)
  • Kids will become a little cranky due to sore gums.
  • Infrequent feeding or less feeding
  • Excessive drooling with rashes.

During the time of teething, there can be pain and slight inflammation on the gums which may result in crankiness and mild fever. Another reason as mentioned above is, by that time they start to put things into their mouth. If proper hygiene is not maintained, there are chances of infections which results in loose motions and fever too. Also, excessive drooling at that time can lead to rashes on cheeks and neck which are known as drooling rashes.

How to help?

  • Provide them with some soft teethers or soothers which are hygienic.
  • Some teethers are available in the market now-a-days which can be cooled by keeping them in the refrigerator and when the babies are biting on that, that will act as a cold compression and mild pain will be relieved
  • Biochemic combination #21 is a popular Homeopathic medicine that can be given to the babies.
  • Rajanyadi choornam, which is an Ayurvedic medicine, can be mixed with honey and can also be given to babies.
